Solemn Pontifical Mass of Archbishop Jose Palma, March 26, 2012

3/28/12: Photos added to this post.

As previously announced, the Archbishop of Cebu, His Excellency Msgr. Jose Palma D.D., offered Solemn Pontifical Mass for the Feast of the Annunciation on March 26, 2012. To our knowledge this is his first public Mass according to the 1962 Missal, and only the fifth Solemn Pontifical Mass to be celebrated in the Philippines by a bishop in a canonically regular situation since Summorum Pontificum came into effect in 2007. (Msgr. Camilo Gregorio, Prelate of Batanes, and Msgr. Antonio Tobias, Bishop of Novaliches, have previously celebrated two Solemn Pontifical Masses each, in addition to a number of Low or Sung Masses. A few other bishops have also celebrated Low Masses.)

Our congratulations to the Franciscan Friars and Sisters of the Immaculate and to the Traditional Catholic community in Cebu on this historic event.

At last, a Filipino FSSP deacon

Congratulations to Anthony Uy FSSP (third from left in this picture) on his ordination to the diaconate on March 17, 2012. (He was ordained to the subdiaconate only a few weeks previously.)

The visit of Canon Moreau to the Philippines

The blog Veritatem Facientes in Caritate has posted a comprehensive report on the visit of Canon Moreau to the Philippines last month:

Canon Moreau's first visit to the Philippines (Feb. 6 - 12, 2012)

Below is the full video of the Solemn High Mass that Canon Moreau celebrated in Holy Family Parish of the Diocese of Cubao -- the current home of the Societas Ecclesia Dei Sancti Joseph - Una Voce Philippinensis -- on February 12, 2012. With the permission of the ecclesiastical authorities, this parish celebrates its annual patronal feast on the Second Sunday of February. As such the Mass was a Votive Mass of the Holy Family (1st Class) despite that Sunday being Sexagesima Sunday in the calendar of the 1962 Missal. The Mass was served by the corps of servers of the Societas and the chants were sung by the Choro Sancti Joseph.

Many thanks to Rorate Caeli for noting the visit of the Canon, and to New Liturgical Movement for posting this Mass:
